India as a nation is blessed with rich tribal traditions and cultures, Chhattisgarh State Government takes pride in safeguarding, conserving, and developing these traditions and wishes to give due recognition to such cultures. Our government has made many innovative efforts in providing a dignified place to the great cultural traditions, language, food, attire, festivals, and lifestyle of the indigenous tribes by taking some groundbreaking steps in this direction.
We, as citizens of a culturally rich state, take pride in the fact that Chhattisgarh is still home to some of the most ancient forms of tribal culture and the State Government is committed to preserve these treasures in their original form. In our effort to promote tribal culture, folk dance, folk music, and folk art, we organised the first National Tribal Dance Festival (NTDF) from 27th December to 29th December 2019 and second NTDF from 28th October to 1st November 2021.
In the second edition of this unique festival 1149 tribal artists of 61 groups from States and Union Territories including 60 ethnic artists from 7 countries graced the festival with their presence. Their participation did not only showcase the rich tribal culture of our country on the world stage, but it also promulgated and reaffirmed the idea of Unity in Diversity of our great nation. The third edition of this festival (NTDF) is proposed on 1st of November on the occasion of 22nd foundation day of Chhattisgarh state. It is a three-day event concluding on 3rd November 2022.
National Tribal Dance Festival is one of Chhattisgarh's grand festivals which celebrates diverse tribal communities and their culture not just in India but from across the globe.
The three daylong event is organised under the Tourism and Culture department of Chhattisgarh state. This festival aims to unite the tribal communities and provides an opportunity to educate about their rich culture for all. Tribal groups from different states and union territories, from countries like Uganda, Uzbekistan, Palestine, Nigeria, Sri Lanka and more have been a part in NTDF's past editions. Participants in group take part in this mega dance competition and their theme-based performance describes their lifestyle and traditions. The NTDF '19 was the very first edition of this festival, held for three days in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. With various diverse tribal communities participating in the competition, it was a great success. The festival was inaugrated by Shri Rahul Gandhi Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Shri Bhupesh Baghel. The NTDF '21 was the very second edition of this festival, held for three days in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. With various diverse tribal communities participating in the competition, it was a great success. The festival was inaugurated by Hon'ble Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shri Hemant Soren and Hon'ble Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Shri Bhupesh Baghel.
